How to Choose an Echocardiography System

Echocardiography systems are FDA Class II diagnostic ultrasound platforms that produce real-time, non-invasive cardiac images using phased-array transducers to evaluate ventricular function, valve morphology, hemodynamics, and structural heart disease via modalities including 2D, 3D/4D, Doppler (pulsed, continuous-wave, color), and speckle-tracking strain imaging. Primary buyers include hospital cardiology departments, ambulatory surgery centers performing structural heart interventions, outpatient cardiology practices, and ICU/emergency medicine services deploying point-of-care focused cardiac ultrasound (FOCUS). Purchasing decisions are typically triggered by fleet aging (>7–10 years), expansion of structural heart programs requiring 3D TEE guidance, or new site build-outs for outpatient echo labs.
