How to Choose a Crash Cart

A crash cart (or code cart) is a mobile, lockable storage unit pre-stocked with the medications, airway equipment, defibrillator, and ACLS supplies needed to treat a patient during the first ~30 minutes of cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, or respiratory failure. The original design was patented by ECRI Institute founder Joel J. Nobel, M.D. while a surgical resident at Pennsylvania Hospital in 1965, intended to enable doctors and nurses to save time during emergencies. Buyers include hospital procurement, ASC administrators, urgent care, dental practices performing sedation, dialysis centers, and physician offices conducting cardiac stress testing.
